The Correct Social Media
What social media should you use for marketing your business? That really depends on your goals and your demographic. However our motto is “use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted” so to be safe, you should use Facebook because it is the largest and most broadly appealing social media site. However our goal is not to appeal to the most people, but to appeal to the most specific people in the optimal way. Content marketing is the new way of selling, and if you can navigate this new world you can unlock the full power of the internet. The tricky part is that you aren’t just speaking to your customers anymore you’re also speaking the algorithms. The highs are higher, but the lows are lower, so you want to categorize and prioritize your ideal target market for the most optimal marketing strategy. This can help you isolate problems your customers are having and provide a solution before they even ask. So what is the best social media site for your business?
Facebook Content Marketing:
As mentioned in the introduction FaceBook is the most popular social media with over ⅓ of the world's population (allegedly) needless to say it is the most popular for advertising. Should you be using Facebook for your business marketing…. Yes. Should it be your only social media site for online marketing…. No. Should it be your main platform for business marketing…. Maybe. Content marketing is about data, so if you reverse engineer your sales process and find that your demographic is mostly on Facebook then yes. Here is a nice compiled list of 63 Facebook Statistics if you’d like to learn more. Here is a longer list of pros and cons.
Pros:
Really geared towards businesses and advertising
Integrated Customer Chat Feature (Messenger)
Largest Customer Base
Long and Short form content options
Integrated with instagram and whatsapp
Well developed algorithm and potential virility
Cons:
It can get pricey to have paid ads
You can’t fully trust the metrics
Fake profiles
Youtube Content Marketing
Youtube is an awesome platform for content marketing for a few key reasons, every minute 500 hours of content is uploaded to the site. There is a very large American user base with over ⅘ Americans using the platform. They’re also owned by Google, the largest search engine so your content will show up in Google searches organically. Mainly video is becoming a huge medium that most of the tech companies are starting to focus on and Youtube is king for video content. Probably shouldn’t be your main focus, but if you’re knowledgeable about something specific this is a great way to get people onto your site.
Pros:
Great for long form content
Shows up in Google searches
Organically grow your audience
Can cost very little and be reposted to other platforms
Cons:
Ad blockers on web browsers
Limited control
Sales conversion can be low
Instagram Content Marketing
Instagram is a Meta company (owned by facebook) but still has an impressive 1 billion users. Also this is just speculation, but instagram has really pivoted their business model to be more like Tik Tok (a chinese owned company) and if I were so guess I think the US government would like to get some of those eyes back. The main marketing feature of these app based video sharing platforms is the influencers. If you find a good influencer you can get amazing traction and a great ROI, but if you find a dud you can miss entirely or even cause harm to your brand.
Pros:
Most popular platform of influencer marketing
High potential upside on ad spend
Chance for virility
Integrated with Facebook (post one time on both sites)
Direct instagram sales
Cons:
More advertisement saturation
Working with the wrong influencer
Mainly a mobile platform
Linkedin Content Marketing
This one is the dark horse because all of the other social media accounts on this list have been platforms for personal social media, while Linkedin is professional social media. Linkedin has over 750 million users making it the largest professional social media platform in the world. This is a great place to offer long form content and publish informational articles. This is a solid choice if you’re doing B2B sales with a longer sales process.
Pros:
Linkedin users earn 44% more than the national average
Great for articles and videos
High amount of options for advertisements
Cons:
Highest cost of ads on major social media
Limited target audience
Secondary Content Marketing Platforms:
As the name implies these should not be your main online marketing platform, however these are highly specialized and effective tools when properly implemented. In marketing like most things the key is consistency, but these sites give you more of an option to swing the bat and
potentially hit a home run. Some of these sites play well with Google, other sites give you a high chance of going viral.
Tik Tok - Hype popular with young people, influencer driven. If you’re targeting a younger demographic for a zany product run a Tik Tok ad and track the results.
Reddit - “The front page of the internet” If game stop teaches us anything it is that Reddit users can get behind a cause and organize. Something Reddit users don’t like is advertising however. This opens up the door for content marketing to shine, you can use specific subreddits to post about your product and gain a lot of traction if you have good content and can solve a specific problem or provide a specific service.
Quora - the is a Q and A website that plays very nicely with google and will allow you to post answers to questions your potential customers may have. This is a very powerful tool, and if you have a website that can sell a solution to that problem you’ve already helped them with… that good will goes a long way.
Snapchat - Good with youths and fun aunts….
